I enjoyed driving through Virginia and West Virginia. There's a lot of history in these two states surrounding the civil war era and a number of places are believed to be haunted as a result.
When we arrived in the town of Beckley, I noticed a number of businesses advertising Ghost Walks. I was only in town one night and unable to attend a tour of this towns most haunted sites. Here are a two well known haunted places in this town:
Beckley Junior High - This was once the site of a Hospital during the Civil War. A young nurse named Hannah was killed in the hospital and is believed to haunt this building. A number of people have heard a women moaning and footsteps up and down the halls of this school.
Soldiers Memorial Theater - This theater was built in 1931 as a memorial to the soldiers of WWI. Today it houses an art gallery and is a performance center. Staff and artists have had a number of experiences with disembodied voices, cold spots, strange noises and other paranormal phenomena in this historical building. A man dressed in gray has also been sighted in the theater by a number of eyewitnesses.

Does a ghost appear regularly at this spot on the Coleford-Cinderford road near the Dilke?
Lone figure waits...then vanishesA LONG-time driver who regularly passes the Dilke Hospital during the night has the shivers after encountering what he believes is a ghost...twice!
Not wishing to be identified in case his employers worry about his state of mind, the man says he is sure there is something supernatural about a figure waiting in the road by the bus stop at the Dilke side of the road - only to vanish when the kind-hearted driver offered him a lift into Cinderford.
The first time it happened 18 months ago, knowing no bus was due, he drew in to offer the man a lift. The half-past midnight encounter was unsettling.
"The shelter has windows and when I pulled up and looked out and there was nobody there at all, I wondered if it had just been a reflection in one of the glass panels," he said.
But he looked all around and there was nobody in sight...
Putting the mystery to the back of his mind he had all but forgotten it until last Sunday, when the figure again appeared at the bus stop at around 7pm and he slowed down. Once again it had gone when he drew level. Once again, there was nobody at all in sight.
And thinking back to the earlier occasion, he remembered the figure had looked exactly the same and was even looking in the same direction on both occasions, as if waiting for somebody he knew.
The driver is so convinced that there is something odd about the encounters that he wonders if anyone knows of "something terrible" that happened at this spot many years ago.
"It might be quite some time ago, because everyone I have told about it says they have heard of nothing like that. And the bus stop itself must be fairly recent," he said.
"Even the cemetery and crematorium over the road, the sort of place you might expect to have ghostly goings-on, only started in the 1950s."

Three ghost hunters were conducting an investigation at a cemetery in Richland, Missouri, when they captured something quite unique and 'ghostly', though not the Bob Marley type.
It's also rare that ghost hunters report to the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON), though it has happened before.

Richland, Missouri
On the evening of Saturday June 5th our paranormal group decided to do a investigation in a cemetery near Richland Missouri in Pulaski County. It was just the group leader, his wife, and myself that night. We were having the usual investigation and were at first glance getting a lot of orbs, with a couple of really cool face pictures.
While at the cemetery I saw a shooting star shoot straight down. The night was clear with some clouds in the distance producing heat lightning. My friend was using a camera that had an infra red attachment. He has a better camera then I do that is 10megapixel.
We spent about 45 minutes at this place then moved on to the next cemetery down a series of dirt roads. While there all three of us noticed a constant humming noise at this cemetery. It was not the interstate as when you live by a road there are occasional breaks in the noise.
We finished up the investigation at the second investigation and headed back to the group leader's house. We uploaded our pictures to our respective computers and proceeded to go through the evidence right then and there. About approximately ten minutes into the review of evidence. I hear "What the hell is that?!?" coming from the group leader. I got up and, his wife got up from the computer desk and headed over to his desk and looked at an unusual object hanging in the sky among the trees. This was unlike anything I had ever seen before.
We realized that this photo was taken in the first cemetery. The picture that was taken in the same spot and in the general same direction before had no such object in it. It was invisible to us. While we were in that spot we had to be no more then 25 feet from the object and the group leader speculates that the object was hovering about in the tree tops. Observing us.
Also noticed in other photographs are humanoid looking faces with two black stripes painted upon their cheeks.
It is also worth noting that the group leader and his wife did a pre-visit to the graveyard about two weeks ago. When we arrived he commented that there looked to be several dirt patches that were not there previously.
Were the aliens investigating us investigating the cemetery? Did they follow us to the other cemetery and was that the constant humming we heard? We may never know the true answer.

Note: I have cropped the original photo and enhanced the object.
If you look closely, it appears to be behind some trees in the foreground, yet partially "in" the background trees.
The object also appears to be semi-transparent. Perhaps a double exposure, or stranger still, something trans-dimensional?
It looks vaguely like a cement bucket but I'd appreciate feedback on this. Please email me if you have any idea as to what this could be.

The Vampire Diaries is a scary show-vampires, werewolves, witches and frighteningly sexy stars-but the set itself is also a pretty terrifying place to work.
What happened to cause star Nina Dobrev to believe in ghosts?
The actress, who plays doppelg"angers Elena and Katherine on the CW thriller, says the crew had more than one close encounter with paranormal phenomena while filming at the Gaither Plantation in Covington, Ga.
Once, Dobrev told the AP, a phantom piano player interrupted a shoot.
"The ADs started screaming, 'Stop! Whoever that is, stop the music. We're rolling!'" she said, adding that when the crew barged into the room with the piano, it was empty.
Another time, when Dobrev was alone in a bathroom with no one nearby, she said "the lights were just spontaneously coming on and off."
The whole crew, said the actress, shared a "weird feeling" while filming at Gaither but "nobody could pinpoint" why.
Enter Syfy's Ghost Hunters crew, who investigated the plantation for an episode airing aired April 15, 2009.
"We have a lot of theories," Amy Bruni, one of the Ghost Hunters paranormal investigators, told us today about the hauntings. "The place is very historical-it's been around for a long time. There's a lot of history in that area. Sometimes we see that associated with paranormal activity, especially tragedies or things like that where something might not want to leave.
"I wouldn't blame them," Ami laughs. "It's a beautiful location."
Ami says The Vampire Diaries crew aren't the mysterious piano player's first audience. "I know piano playing has been reported there before," she told us, theorizing that "it could be what we consider a residual haunt. Something that doesn't necessarily interact with you but it kind of does things-goes through the motions."
The Ghost Hunters crew believe they found pretty conclusive evidence of paranormal activity during their investigation at the Gaither Plantation. "We basically put some flour down on the floor upstairs in the attic, left it and came back and there were footsteps in it." (Goosebumps!) "It's a very old-fashioned way of investigating. And then there was a cabinet door downstairs that we caught on camera that opened on its own [and] we heard footsteps throughout the location. It's been awhile but I do remember it pretty well as a really neat place."
A neat place to go on a dare, maybe, but would you want to work there?
"I don't think we've shot there since," Dobrev said.
