10 Most Wicked And Horrible Places In The World

10 Most Wicked And Horrible Places In The World Image
Halloween is over, but the wicked places in our world didn't disappear together with it. They are thrilling the lovers of adrenalin and scary stories, who are willing to see something, from which normal tourists hastily run away. So, here are 10 the most horrible places in the world, one is scarier than another.

1. Mutter Museum of Medical History in Philadelphia.

Mutter Museum of Medical History in Philadelphia - is the museum of pathologies, old medical equipment and biological exhibit items; the museum is situated in the oldest in North America medical school complex. The museum is most famous for its giant collection of skulls; here are also gathered all kinds of unique exhibit items, for example a woman's dead body which turned into the soap in the soil where she was buried. Here are also Siamese twins with conjoined livers, the skeleton of two-headed child and other creepy showpieces.

2. Truk Lagoon in Micronesia. Much of Japanese Navy forces are now lying at the bottom of shallow Truk Lagoon in Micronesia, southwest of Hawaii. Blue depths, explored by Jacques Cousteau in 1971 and thick-sown with wrecks of battleships and aircraft carriers, sunk in the year 1944, became open for divers. However, some of them are still afraid of crews, which had not left their battle positions. Ships and planes had struck for a long time into the coral reefs, but still, new and too curious tourists who pry where they shouldn't, become their victims.

3. Sonora Witchcraft Market in Mexico City, Mexico

Mexico witches sitting in tight stalls are promising the quick riddance from poverty and spousal infidelity, and martyred exotic iguanas, frogs and wild birds are hanged for sale in the cages on the walls of the tents. Sonora market is opened everyday to pilgrims from Mexico City and tourists from far beyond who come here for fortune predictions and promises of better life. This is the place where the local population buys "supernatural" stuff, ranging from potions made according to ancient Aztec recipes to Buddha statues. Hard-headed enthusiasts may even buy here some blood of rattlesnake or dried hummingbirds for taming the luck. However, one should remember that witchcraft in Mexico is not a joke: the National Association of Sorcerers was engaged in presidential election in order to turn it into the honest and free one, using magical spells.

4. Easter Island, Chili

One of the most mysterious places on earth is Easter Island, with huge, cut out stone figures of giants, ingrown in the soil under the weight of millenniums. Statues are staring in the skies, as if they were guilty of some mystical crimes. Only the stone giants know where have disappeared the people who installed them. There is no one on the Easter Island who knows the secret of making, moving and installing of these giant statues with the height of 21 meters and weight of 90 tons. Though, they were often moved more than 20 kilometers away from the open cast where the ancient sculptors worked. Nowadays, the life is barely lingering on the island where a mighty civilization once flourished, and no one knows where did the mysterious constructors come from and where did they disappear. Of course, except those who have read Thor Heyerdahl in childhood. For them, all these mysteries - about making and installing the statues are no longer a secret.

5. Manchac Swamps in Louisiana

Boats with tourists, floating through the swamps in the torchlight are surrounded by old cypresses and long threads of moss hanging down from the branches of cypresses. The howl, sounding from afar could be that of rou-ga-rou - the Cajun version of werewolf.

Manchac Swaps are also called "ghost swaps". There are situated near New-Orleans and are the place, Goths are dreaming about. It is said that the swamps were cursed by a captured voodoo queen, in the beginning of XX th century. As a result, three villages disappeared during the hurricane in the year 1915. The repose of this birds' cemetery is disturbed only by the dead bodies, which surface time to time - this is the heritage of hundred years old commercial activities. Besides that, the alligators, which are more numerous than dead bodies will not strain at eating fresh tourist meat.

6. Paris Catacombs, France

Bones and skulls are packed on both sides of the corridor like goods in the warehouse - lots of goods. The air here is dry and bears only a slight hint of decomposition. Here are also some letterings, in general dating from the French Revolution, which are flagging king and noblemen. After getting inside the catacombs under Paris, it becomes clear why Victor Hugo and Anne Rice have wrote their famous stories about exactly these catacombs. They stretch for about 187 kilometers under the whole city and only insignificant part of them is opened to public. It is said that the rest of them are patrolled by special legendary underground police, though, most likely they are patrolled by legions of corpses. Or vampires. Well, who cares! The mines existed here in Roman times, and when in the year 1785 the Paris cemeteries were overflowing, the tunnels came into their present state.

7. Winchester House, San Jose, California

"Magical" Winchester House - a titanic construction with many superstitions referring to it. A fortune-teller has told Sarah Winchester, the heiress of arms company, that the ghosts of those who were killed with Winchester rifles will chase her, unless she leaves Connecticut, moves to the West and builds such a house, which could not be finished during all her life. The construction has started in San Jose, in the year 1884 and didn't stop for 38 years, till Sarah died. Nowadays, the ghosts of her madness live in 160 rooms of the house: there are stairs going straight into the ceiling, doors that open right in the middle of the wall, spider motifs, chandeliers and hooks. Since the house was opened to public, there are ceaseless complaints about clapping doors, sound of footsteps in the night, moving lights; door handles which turn by themselves. Even if tourists do not believe in ghosts, the place shocks by its immensity.

8. Mary King's dead-end in Edinburgh

Several streets with dark past hidden under the medieval Old Town in Edinburgh. The place, where in the XVII-th century the plague victims were closed up and left to die, is famous for its poltergeists. Something unknown touches tourists' hands and feet. It is said, that this is the ghost of Annie, a young girl who was left there by her parents in the year 1645. A hundred years later, like in scary fairy-tales, a big new building was built on the place of King's Close. In the year 2003 the Close was opened for tourists, who were attracted by the stories about its supernatural spirits.

Visitors will be guided down the stone stairs to the dark, oppressive lanes.

Except Annie's room there is an exposition of medieval life and deaths from plague reconstructed. The main thing is - do not stop when you feel the icy breath of death.

9. Occult Abbey of Thelema in Sicily

Aleister Crowley - is perhaps one of most odious occultists in the world, and this stone farm house filled with dark pagan wall-paintings, once was the cosmopolis of satanic orgies. At least, it was considered to be such in 1920-s.

Crowley is known because of his fans, such as Marilyn Manson and the fact that he appeared on the cover of Beatles' album 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band'. Crowley has founded the Abbey of Thelema, named after the utopia described in Rabelais Gargantua', whose motto was "Do what you want." It became the commune of free love. Newcomers had to spend night in "Room of Nightmares" where they, high on heroin and marijuana stared at frescoes of earth, skies and hell. After a popular English dandy had died in the Abbey, the media raised a stink, making Mussolini close this dodgy commune. Notorious clandestine stage director Kenneth Anger had dug out this story and shot a movie there, which later has mysteriously disappeared. Now the Abbey is half-ruined and grassed over. However, there are few frescoes left inside, with the help of which Crowley intimidated his followers.

Tourists, apt to esotericism can wander there and thrill themselves.

10. Chernobyl in Ukraine

Tourists, coming to Ukraine, in the abandoned city of Pripyat, find themselves in the exclusion zone. Here, all the stuff is left in hurry in that horrible 1986, when Chernobyl NPP accident made thousands of people leave their homes forever. The apartments are opened wide, ivy climbs up the painted walls of kindergarten, toys are lying around scattered, and newspapers are left opened on kitchen tables. Swings are still wiggling by the dead wind, creaking. Now, when the radiation level is safe for the short-time visits, Chernobyl zone is opened for tourists. All excursions to Chernobyl are almost the same, because the movements about exclusion zone are strictly limited. As a rule, tourists start from Kiev via bus, and then go to Chernobyl NPP on foot, then tour it and watch the "Sarcophagus". One could wander about the streets of ghost-town of Pripyat and visit the parking of contaminated vehicles. It is also possible to meet local self-settlers, the residents of "restricted zone."

Tasmanian Mental Asylum Haunted Reputation

Tasmanian Mental Asylum Haunted Reputation Image
In the Tasmanian town of New Norfolk stories about apparitions, strange sudden smells and unearthly happenings at the site of the former mental asylum have been circulating the local community and more recently the internet.

A former mental health hospital, Willow Court has unofficially become a drawcard for people who believe in the supernatural.

Now the Derwent Valley Council is determined to find out once and for all if there is any truth to the stories.

Councillors recently voted in favour of a paranormal investigation in at least two of the wards still standing.

A team of three from the Australian Paranormal Investigation Unit are now planning a two or three night stay in ward C and Alonnah that once housed the criminally insane.

Decommissioned by the Tasmanian Government in the 1990s, some of the wards have been knocked down to make way for development. Others are still empty - trashed by vandals.

Glenn Hevey, Nick Jarvis and Aiden Sullivan have long held an interest in Willow Court and the supernatural.

"I've loved it all my life," former New Norfolk boy Nick Jarvis said.

"What spurred my interest even more was the paranormal side of Willow Court and almost on a daily basis I've been getting reports of people seeing things and hearing things."

Three years ago, the three young men decided to get serious and set up the Australian Paranormal Investigations Unit.

They contacted the local Derwent Valley Council and the small team of ghost busters were given official council approval to investigate three wards that once housed the criminally insane.

"We went through the appropriate channels went through council, the committee endorsed it and it was voted on and approved. So it was a long process and we're pretty happy to be in that position," Mr Jarvis said.

The three men are certain there is a spiritual presence at the site, but believe it or not they have never had the camera when a spirit has appeared.

"When I was driving down the main avenue here at Willow Court, I was driving over some of the speed humps and the headlights shone on a white apparition figure," Mr Jarvis said.

This time they are determined to record a presence.

"We've got voice recorders to capture electronic voice phenomena, including static or stray noises. We've got electromagnetic field metres to hopefully capture any presences. We've got cameras, and we've got temp guns which we use with temperature readings to work out if there are any temperature spikes or drops," Mr Jarvis said.

Sceptic Leyon Parker wishes the team luck, but holds little hope for success.

"I think it's a waste of time," he said.

"I suppose people can choose to waste their time any way they like. If these people want to waste their time looking for ghosts that don't exist it's not my job to tell them they shouldn't do that."

To be convinced he says he would need "photographic evidence, there would have to be electronic recordings of some sort, the clearer the better, probably accompanying eyewitness accounts and it would certainly help if there was a sceptical mind there at the time this occurred".

There are some people in Tasmania hoping no such evidence is found, in fact they would prefer if Willow Court's history as an asylum for the state's mentally ill was not dragged up.

Locals have never been keen to admit having a relative at Willow Court, a family secret often considered more sensitive than a person's convict ancestry.

For that reason there are some councillors who are against a paranormal investigation.

Barry Lathey believes the asylum's more recent past should be left alone.

"I think this site is a bit too close to the people that were incarcerated in here and I think it would have, or may have, an adverse affect on their families," he said.

Former Mayor Tony Nicholson worked at Willow Court many years ago.

With strong memories of the patients, he believes the supernatural investigation is disrespectful.

But the ghost busters say finding a spiritual presence at Willow Court could silence the sceptics and have economic spinoffs for the area.

Full Dressed Woman In Colonial Dress Ghostly Spirit

Full Dressed Woman In Colonial Dress Ghostly Spirit Image
Date: November 2007Time: 8:00 p.m.

Full Description of Event/Sighting: My son and I sat watching television, we were on the sofa facing the west in the family room, with backs to the east of the room. Strangely we both turned toward the southeast corner of the family room toward the door leading from the living room toward the kitchen.

There stood what I knew was a apparition (Ghostly spirit): She didn't seem to concern herself with my son and I looking eyeball to eyeballs at her, she stared at us with a stern, but unnerving stare for a about 30 seconds.

Stunningly dressed in a cream color looking colonial style dress, and white soft shoes. She had a scarf partially covering her long white hair. As we turned to each other (my son and I) to be certain we both were seeing this ghostly sight, she smiled and within a split second disappeared from our sight!

This is the third sighting of the "apparitions" I've have had that year. I've since experienced dozens of apparition activity at our presence home in Clinton, MD.

In the 1970's I reported to NASA/AF Intelligence an UFO abduction that I was then instructed to not ever reveal to outside sources. Thank you for giving me this opportunity to share an exchange!

If you have seen anything like this in the same area please be kind enough to contact Brian Vike at: "sighting@telus.net" with the details of your sighting. "ALL PERSONAL INFORMATION IS KEPT CONFIDENTIAL."

The Phantom Cosmonauts Of The Ussr

The Phantom Cosmonauts Of The Ussr Image
At the dawn of the Space Race, the United States and Soviet Union were in a neck in neck sprint to claim the heavens for their own glorious empires, but as mission after mission wrenched the secrets of the universe from the stars above, rumors began to circulate that some of the explorers that were rocketed into the skies above, never returned.

These people have become known as the Lost Cosmonauts.

The theory of the lost cosmonauts begins, strangely enough, in Italy with a pair of brothers named Achille and Giovanni Judica-Cordiglia. The brothers were amateur radio operators and had already become well-known for picking up transmissions from Sputnik and even the heartbeats of the Soviet space dog, Laika, on board Sputnik II (Laika herself is a lost cosmonaut).

On November 28, 1960, the brothers were alerted to something strange. An East German observatory announced that they had picked up a strange signal on the Soviet space frequencies. When the Cordiglias tuned into that frequency, they picked up what sounded like a hand-keyed SOS signal. The most disturbing thing about the signal is that it showed almost no relative speed which could only mean one thing: it was on a direct course away from the planet. As the brothers listened, the signal grew weaker until it finally winked out.

The brothers had apparently just discovered evidence that a Soviet space capsule had gone off course and drifted permanently into outer space with a cosmonaut on board.

Two months later, the brothers detected another transmission. This time, it seemed to be the labored breaths of an unconscious man and a heartbeat. When they played the recording for their father, a cardiologist, he postulated that the heartbeat was of a man suffering cardiac arrest.

Two days later, the Soviets announced the failed re-entry of a large unmanned spacecraft.

In April of 1961, the brothers picked up the transmissions of Yuri Gargarin, the official first person to orbit the Earth.

The story wasn't over. In fact, the most disturbing chapter was still to come. In May of 1961, they picked up a new transmission. It was a a woman's voice speaking in Russian. Although she seemed calm and professional, her tone became more and more strained an panicked as the transmission continued and finally ceases.

The translation came out as, "Isn't this dangerous? Talk to me! Our transmission begins now. I feel hot. I can see a flame. Am I going to crash? Yes. I feel hot, I will re-enter..."

Cold War Russia was a torrent of secrets. It is well documented that there were cosmonaut deaths prior to Gargarin's flight and it is also well known that Grigoriy Nelyubov, a cosmonaut who committed suicide in 1966 after being bounced from the program, was effectively erased from the records - airbrushed from photographs, his medical and service records edited. In fact, Nelyubov's involvement in the program wasn't brought to light until 1986.

It's thought by proponents of the lost cosmonaut theory that the USSR lost as many as eleven people.

Still, the Soviet Union never acknowledged that they had lost any cosmonauts in space. Many have said that the Soviets covered up the deaths to prevent any damage to the reputation of their space program while others have said that the Cordiglia brothers manufactured their recordings.

With the almost irrational secrecy of the Soviet Empire, it is not hard to imagine covering up something that might lead to national embarrassment in the face of competition with their greatest rivals, and if these lost cosmonauts did exist, official information on them has either been long-since lost or are still gathering dust somewhere.

If they did exist, however, the most incontrovertible evidence floats somewhere out there in the infinite void, a cold and powerless metal tomb with a forgotten hero waiting patiently for the day he might be found by the explorers of a later age.

Police Officer Accused Of Theft Used Paranormal Defense

Police Officer Accused Of Theft Used Paranormal Defense Image
FORMER OHIO POLICE OFFICER ACCUSED OF THEFT USED PARANORMAL DEFENSE

A defendant said that it was not just his crimes coming back to haunt him on Wednesday. Former Mount Gilead police officer Joseph Hughes faced 21 charges against him. Prosecution exhibits showed the list of stolen goods investigators said they found inside Hughes' Morrow County home, much of which belonged to the county.

One of the 12 air conditioners Hughes was accused of stealing was labelled "auditor" in large, black letters. The case took an even stranger turn when the former police officer explained why he was unaware of the stolen property in his basement.

"It's going to sound kind of ridiculous, but we believed that there was some kind of paranormal presence in the basement," Hughes said in court. "It sounds kind of ridiculous but there was evidence to support it."

Hughes' supernatural defense stunned prosecutors. "Probably as odd as I've ever heard, was the first," said Tom Elkin of the Morrow County Prosecutor's Office. "I've been practicing since 1983 and I can say that's the first time I've heard of paranormal activity in the course of a trial." The ghostly defense did not work out well for Hughes. He was found guilty of 18 out of 20 charges.

Haunted Winnipeg

Haunted Winnipeg Image
Some many think that Winnipeg is home only to marshes and mosquitoes. Not so. There are a number of places that are reportedly haunted in this "Gateway to the West".

Fort Garry Hotel - While in preparation for the grand opening, an employee was accidentally killed while repairing the elevator. A bride and groom were murdered here while honeymooning by a jealous family member. Many have seen and heard the sobbing bride roaming the halls looking for her husband. Hotel workers have seen strange things on the second floor of this hotel along with unusual sounds. It is believed that room 202 is haunted by a cloaked figure that stands at the foot of the bed.

Portage Place Mall - A number of the stores are plagued by objects being moved and thrown. While in the back of the San Francisco Store employees often hear the cries of a little girl.

The Walker Theatre - Doors open and close. Mysterious applauding sounds can be heard from unoccupied seats after performances. Investigators here once captured an EVP of hammering sounds, footsteps and whispers when no one else was there. It is believed that two ghosts who were former actors here are responsible for these disturbances.

If you are in the area and what to these and more haunted places, check out the Haunted Winnipeg Tour.
